If you're looking for a smart, playful companion, the American Eskimo is a pooch to ponder. He's a handsome dog, sporting a soft, fluffy white coat and an alert expression. This guy comes in three sizes, but maxes out at 40 pounds.

Three Sizes to Choose From

According to the American Kennel Club, the American Eskimo is available in three sizes. The toy version stands between 9 and 12 inches at his shoulder, usually weighing between 7 and 10 pounds. The miniature American Eskimo stands up to 15 inches tall at the shoulder, hitting the scales between 11 and 20 pounds. The standard American Eskimo reaches up to 19 inches and can weigh between 20 and 40 pounds.

More Than Size to Consider

It's tempting to think that because he's available in different sizes that he'll make a suitable dog for just about anyone, depending on your space or preference. However, he can be a barky dog, particularly toward strangers. His thick double coat requires regular grooming, ideally at least a couple times a week to prevent mats and tangles from developing in his beautiful fur. If you have the time to invest in training this pup, you'll be rewarded with a loyal, mischievous friend.
